Birth JJ

She warned me that she had fast labors. She asked me to keep her in triage just a bit longer, that she knew real labor was coming and did not want to be far away. I smiled, she smiled, and we waited. Her cervix and contractions told me early labor; her conviction and intuition, and my trust in her, told me we weren't far away. I smiled, she smiled, and I admitted her.The night took off, with other labors and women and needs carrying me fast on my feet and with hands in and out of gloves. I took a brief trip to the call room to close my eyes for a few minutes before anything else really started happening. The nurse called me, but I was sound asleep. What felt like seconds after I closed my eyes, the knock on the call room door jolted me awake, and we ran to her together."Stephanie, the baby is coming!""I'm right here for you!""No you're not, you're over there!""I'm right here!"She laughs, I laugh, we wait, but only a few more moments.Birth.
